Well, the Next Chapter group has been wrecking journals for a week now. Even after watching Jamie's wonderful video, I was surprised by how much I want to protect the journal from my scribblings or rather, how hesitant I was to begin making marks because I wanted even the messy, dirty marks to be perfect. Yes, that's right, I wanted to make a perfect wreck.
I've also decided I need some new markers.
I can see that these pages are going to exist in layers, that I'm going to wreck them then come back and wreck some more.
Once I dealt with my reluctance to wreck, I was reminded of the emotional release of coloring - just moving color on a page, scratch, scratch, scratch. It's great fun and feels sort of powerful or primal, making marks with no real purpose. It became almost like an emotional body meditation.

i love the color in your pages, and for some reasons your nieces came to my mind, they'd love to play with you and this journal ;-)

Go for it! The more we could "wreck" through our emotional resistance, the more we could free ourselves to have fun! You're doing fine, just fine! :)

"these pages are going to exist in layers"
My journal is in for round two - that works fine.
Good luck with the wrecking.

I'm finally digging into it and wrecking it with joy and abandon! Btw, you describe it perfectly, marking it up DOES feel like an emotional body meditation! I love it!!

Good thing they put that warning at the front of the book. Keep on wrecking.

I colored today and it was so much fun. It's been a million years since I spent a few hours picking crayons and coloring.
